Adam Vinatieri Makes Official Decision If He’ll Return In 2019

Adam Vinatieri decided to come back for some more.

The NFL’s all-time leading scorer decided to spend another year playing with the Indianapolis Colts. The information was confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He reported that the kicker and the team are finalizing a one-year contract adding that Adam Vinatieri will play with the Colts in 2019.

Vinatieri is the oldest active player in the league. He had his 23rd season while being able to convert on 23-of-28 kicks with a long of 54 yards. The kicker missed just four extra points in 52 attempts. In October, Vinatieri became the league’s all-time leading scorer. He passed Hall of Fame kicker Morten Anderson twice, and also broke the all-time mark for field goals. Anderson had 565.

Anderson played until 47, and Vinatieri may play even longer. He talked about his plans to play again earlier this month.

Adam Vinatieri is not ready to give up on football

“If they’re wanting, I can’t imagine (I’d) not keep playing, you know? I haven’t made the decision yet. I’ll spend a week or two and just kind of see where we’re at.”

The kicker did not end his career with the best game. He missed a 23-yard field goal attempt and an extra point in the Indianapolis Colts’ Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Reporters asked Vinatieri about his retirement, and the kicker could not say anything because of the emotional loss.

“I never want to make a decision on a day like today, one way or another,” Vinatieri said. “That’s emotional. You’re not thinking through stuff.”

When asked if the Colts’ success could bring him on the field again, Vinatieri said “of course.”

“Absolutely it does,” he said. “The fact that we’ve got a really good young team … It’s an easy answer — yes.”

We cannot do anything but wish him luck in the following season.
