Ben Roethlisberger Shares Surprising Opinion On Super Bowl LIII

Ben Roethlisberger isn’t playing in the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

Ben Roethlisberger faced five of the 12 teams that did qualify for the playoffs: Baltimore, New England, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and Kansas City. Big Ben split his season series with the Ravens and defeated the Patriots in Week 15, 17-10.

While he was leery of giving an official Super Bowl prediction, Ben Roethlisberger did mention two of the teams he faced earlier this season when asked which two teams he expected to see in Super Bowl LIII during his most recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan. 

“Depends on where you’re playing them, each team is different at their place compared to on the road. Going to New Orleans is a hard place to play on the road. Past history, going to New England is not an easy place to play for anybody.”

Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers had enough firepower to defeat the Saints in Week 16, with Roethlisberger completing 66 percent of his passes for 380 yards and three touchdown passes. But after scoring 28 points in the game’s first three quarters, the Steelers weren’t able to add to their tally in the fourth quarter, as Drew Brees’ touchdown pass to Michael Thomas with 1:25 helped clinch the No. 1 seed for the Saints.

While he likes the Patriots’ and Saints’ chances at reaching the Big Game, Roehtlisberger is not pulling for any particular team. He will, however, begin coaching up the next generation of Roethlisberger quarterbacks. 

“I’ll just sit back a little bit and watch some friends play that are on other teams,” Roethlisberger said, “and enjoy trying to teach my son. I think he’s signing up for flag football next year, so maybe teach him out the game is played a little bit.”
