Devin McCourty Slams NFL Officials After Blown Calls

Did the refs see the no-call Sunday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Superdome? The entire NFL world saw it. Devin McCourty talked on the matter urging everyone to do something.

Nickell Robey-Coleman trucked Tommylee Lewis, and refs should have called a pass interference against the LA cornerback. However, the game went straight into overtime, and the Rams earned their ticket to Super Bowl LIII. What does Devin McCourty think about this?

Devin McCourty demands action

“Have these refs as full-time jobs so they don’t have to work in the offseason,” McCourty said. “Give them higher pay, give them a union so we have guys working on their craft year-in and year-out like the players do, so that we’re not here in an NFC Championship Game with a chance to go to the Super Bowl and then getting a call from the league office that says, ‘Hey, I’m sorry.’ That does absolutely nothing for the group of guys that was just playing.”

Rams McVay does not see a problem

“I thought it was a bang-bang type play,” Sean McVay said after the win. “The one thing I respect about the refs today is that they let the guys compete and they let the guys play. I thought Nickell Robey made a nice play. They snapped it on a quick snap, had a little wheel route coming out of the backfield. Thought it was a competitive type play. Certainly I’m not going to complain about the way that was officiated. I thought that it was a competitive play.”

Well, officials do have a union, but McCourty made a good point. Some penalties and calls may harm teams to an irreversible extent. A simple “I’m sorry” will not do the trick. They have to do something in order to improve the situation and find a real solution to the problem.
