Kyrie Irving Takes A Shot At The Lakers Young Players

Being part of the NBA world means that you get no time off. That’s what Boston Celtics All-Star guard Kyrie Irving says.

I think that it’s just a full 24-hour job. I think that when I have that perspective, it becomes a little bit difficult to kind of hold my tongue and what I feel like would be best for our team and individually as well. It’s a big picture thing, it’s a full 24-hour job. It’s not just thinking that eight hours of sleep is enough, like we’re getting this done for recovery is enough. There’s so much more to do in order to put yourself in a great position to play every single night. This is not easy. When I speak on it, it’s just more or less I have the intent because I care,” Kyrie Irving said.

Irving suffered several injuries that gave him an enhanced perspective on the game.

““I’ve been in that position. I’ve been 21 years old. I’ve looked at that cold tub and I’ve been like, ‘I think I’m allergic to that thing.’.. When I fractured my kneecap, that really put things in perspective very, very, very fast. And then obviously dealing with what I dealt with last year, and then playing with a laboring knee. For three years, I had something in my body that I didn’t really need. I needed it for healing, but I didn’t need it to continue playing basketball. Having that s— in my knee was like I had to do the most extra to be ready to play. So just getting used to that,” he said.

Irving now has a mentor role with the Boston Celtics. He averages 23.3 points, 6.6 assists, and 5 rebounds per game. He is also playing his best defense. That’s not something you underestimate.
