Mike Reiss Gives Bombshell Update On Patriots Tight End’s Injury

The New England Patriots are in an excellent condition at this point of the year. The team has 12 players on its injury-related or season-ending reserve list. However, the active roster is really healthy, and it is definitely awesome to see the players perform at this level. But, we would definitely love to see more about three players: tight end Dwayne Allen, Jacob Hollister and safety Devin McCourty.

Allen and McCourty missed the Patriots final practice as they recover from their knee injury and concussion. Hollister was on the field for the session, but moved really slowly due to his hamstring problem that bugged him throughout the year. The tight end did not have much luck.

ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss said that the injury is serious and may cost Hollister the postseason.

“Although there’s always a chance for things to change depending on how deep the Patriots play into the postseason, the sense I get is that it’s highly unlikely second-year tight end Jacob Hollister (hamstring) will be healthy enough to be an option for the coaching staff this postseason. Hollister was hardly moving at practice — with practice-squad tight end Stephen Anderson taking reps before him in individual drills.”

Hollister was limited to eight games in the regular season, and missed six games due to his hamstring issue and a couple more because of his chest injury. However, even when healthy, Hollister’s contribution was limited. The Patriots third tight end saw limited action on offense and played in 59 snaps and managed to catch four passes for 52 yards. He was actually used in the kicking game.

If Hollister does not make the playoffs, the Patriots may use Stephen Anderson as he picked up enough experience in the Patriots’ system since signing with the team. Let’s see what happens next.
