Report: New England Patriots Preparing For Josh McDaniels To Leave

The clock is ticking, and Josh McDaniels will probably leave the New England Patriots.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio went on NBC before the Eagles-Bears Wild Card Weekend game, and used the occasion to say that New England is “preparing for Josh McDaniels to leave.”

McDaniels will probably join the Green Bay Packers or Cleveland Browns. According to Florio, the Patriots will probably make an outside hire. There is a huge possibility that they hire a familiar face.

Florio said that current USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury will probably replace McDaniels. Kingsbury became offensive coordinator at USC and he was unable to take NFL head coaching interviews. However, Florio believes there is still a chance that he makes his way to Foxboro. Kingsbury can just quit and pay a small buyout. That would be ideal.

Kingsbury has had some experience with the Patriots as he was drafted by the team in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He also played in the Super Bowl XXXVIII before being waved.

There are some great things associated with Kingsbury. He did a really good job as the head coach at Texas Tech before being kicked out.

When it comes to McDaniels, he can make a really great decision. The Packers and Browns are interested in his head-coaching skills. These teams may also be attractive for McDaniels. They have Aaron Rodgers and Baker Mayfield. McDaniels had interviewed with the Packers this weekend, and the Browns have not had an official contact with the coordinator.

Steve Doerschuk of CantonRep.com said that McDaniels is “enthusiastically interested” in coaching the Browns. Cleveland is also said to have used “back channels to indicate mutual preliminary interest.” The team said McDaniels is a very serious candidate.

The Packers have Rodgers, and that says pretty much everything. Well, let’s see what happens next.
