Devin McCourty Makes Official Decision On His NFL Future

Devin McCourty was an interesting topic for media reporters as many talked about his retirement.

Everyone was so interested in Devin McCourty and his future plans. However, we have some great news for the Patriots nation. The Patriots safety decided to keep going, and retirement is not in his plans this year.

The New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, and McCourty received his third title. This was a great honor and a true motivation for the player despite the fact that he is not ready to call it a career yet. Maybe he is going for more awards. That’s the only explanation for his words.

The good news is that McCourty will play in 2019.

“I’m gonna play,” McCourty told the Sports Spectrum podcast. “I think once you get a chance to step away for a couple weeks now, you’re like, ‘Yeah, man, I still do want to be around these other young guys that come in.

“It kind of made you realize that if you only play this game for Super Bowls, you’re going to be very empty. Because like as soon as you win it, it’s all about how you can win it next year. . . . All anybody cares about is if we win a seventh championship for the New England organization. So like you have to play for so much more.”

This is more than brilliant for New England. The team will keep a strong piece in their secondary intact for another season. Last year, McCourty totaled 82 tackles to go along with his four passes defended, a forced fumble and an interception.

McCourty’s contract is also a topic these days. He is entering the final year of his five-year contract, and is considered a strong candidate for a restructure. His base salary is $9 million with a cap hit of $13.5 million. If both sides do not bring the cap number down, McCourty may become free agent.
