Golden State Warriors Boss Steve Kerr Recalls Amusing LeBron James Trade Story

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has a few nice stories to tell, and one of the involves LeBron James and a fine. Can you believe that. Well, it sure was an amazing story.

LeBron left the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010, and Steve Kerr was the general manager in Phoenix at the time. Before LeBron’s deal with the Miami Heat, Kerr went on the Dan Patrick Show to talk about the league and even cracked a joke. Kerr offered LeBron a pay-cut to join his team. The NBA chiefs did not like the joke, and Kerr earned a $10,000 fine.

“I got fined one time in Phoenix for making a joke on the radio,” Kerr said. “I went on the Dan Patrick show and Dan asked me if we would be interested in LeBron. It was LeBron’s free agency year before he went to Miami. We were capped out in Phoenix and I said ‘yeah we’d be interested if he didn’t mind taking mid-level [contract]’. Dan laughed and I laughed and $10,000 I wrote a check. I learned my lesson.”

Kerr showed the story in times when tampering is involved in every NBA story.

First, LeBron was accused of doing it with Antony Davis, but was later cleared of any guilt. Teams received emails just to remember their responsibilities.

Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson was also under investigation about his comments on Ben Simmons.

Steve Kerr opens up about behind-the-scenes talks

According to Kerr, there are so many talks we do not even know about.

“I think the tampering stuff is always interesting because players are so close and they talk so much,” he added. “More and more now the guys are playing together in the summer and working out together. For sure recruiting each other – but players are allowed to do that. Teams have to avoid that.”
