James Harrison Poses Idiotic Conspiracy Theory About Patriots

The New England Patriots seem to be faced with some new controversy with every season. From the various “gate” scandals, to a perceived rift between Tom Brady and Bill Belichic or this year’s overblown underdog status, the Patriots always seem to have an additional obstacle to overcome which serves as a further motivation during their playoff runs. However, this latest conspiracy theory is definitely the most ridiculous of them all. James Harrison took the speculations to another level and claimed that the Patriots create these controversies to galvanize the team.

“They make up stories to bring them boys closer together, I promise you.”

“Yes,” Harrison said. “Everybody makes up stories — they may make it up to get somebody to make it up, like it’s crazy. I swear, I was there dude, I didn’t see not one — I’m talking about holding meetings, conversations with him, I’m looking like ‘damn, are they cussing at each other, they fussing at each other?’ No. Like literally when they say it’s New England versus everybody, you believe that. I was there four, six weeks, and by week two I really believed, I’m telling you in my honest heart and soul, it was us versus everybody. Everybody hated us. And I was there for six weeks.”

The truth is likely something in between what James Harrison is suggesting and its alternative.

However, it is silly to suggest that the Patriots are making this all up. While it’s clear that they aren’t inventing controversies out of thin air, it would make sense for them to encourage whatever the media is saying about them for the sake of creating an internal narrative about the media’s unfair treatment. An “us vs. them” atmosphere is a very effective way to get players riled up, regardless of where it’s coming from.
