Joe Montana Talks About Tom Brady After Super Bowl Win

Joe Montana had his five minutes in the NFL, and this time he is in Toronto, talking about Super Bowl LIII, Tom Brady, and a few other topics.

Montana was sort of surprised by the attention he received there.

“The passion for the NFL here is even greater than I even expected,” Montana told Sporting News. “It was good to see how excited everyone. It was a lot of fun.”

This year’s Super Bowl was a battle between a couple fo Bay Area-adjusted quarterbacks. Montana was winning championships, too, and he could not even imagine that his legacy will stay strong for this long.

“You don’t go into it thinking everyone will keep talking about you,” he said. “It’s humbling to think how far it’s gone.”

People keep comparing him and Tom Brady, but Montana says there’s no such thing as comparison.

“It’s hard to compare guys from different eras because this game has changed so much,” Montana said. “You go back to Otto Graham and what he did, with seven championships in 10 years. He played 30 years before me. Tom is doing it now. They’re all great accomplishments that you have to appreciate for what they were at the time.”

This is not the first time Montana spoke about the Patriots quarterback.

“Eh, everybody wants that title I think,” he said during his appearance on Bleacher Report’s “Stick To Football” podcast. “I think it’s really hard to give anyone that title. Tom obviously has had a tremendous career and I have a lot of respect for what he’s done and all he’s accomplished. You know, everybody tried to compare us and there’s just no comparison. The way I look at it, I mean if you go back and try to compare when I played to guys who played long before me if you look at Otto Graham and Sammy Baugh, those guys were way ahead of their time in what they were able to accomplish. You can hardly find film on them, but you know, the game is forever changing and I just say enjoy everyone for what it’s worth. Yeah, I’m just happy to be in the conversation, but obviously, Tom is just putting up stupid numbers so it’s going to be hard for anybody to catch him I think.”
