Los Angeles Lakers Make Decision On Luke Walton’s Status As Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers got LeBron James back on the team, but won just one of their past five games. Is Luke Walton back on the hot seat?

Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times reported that the Lakers have not initiated “internal discussions” about Luke Walton’s status as head coach of the team. Moreover, Walton will probably finish the 2018-19 season as head coach of the Lakers.

“There have been no internal discussions about Lakers coach Luke Walton’s job status in the wake of the team’s loss to the lowly Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night, according to people with knowledge of the situation not authorized to speak publicly on the sensitive matter,” Turner explained.

Walton ‘will definitely finish the season’ and has the full support of the Lakers’ front office, one person said.”

Luke Walton’s season is bad

The last game LA lost was played on Tuesday. The Lakers lost the game to the Atlanta Hawks despite the fact that most fans expected them to win this one. This was the team’s eighth loss in the past 11 games. It’s their second consecutive defeat after being dominated by the Sixers in the 143-120 loss.

Walton is coaching in his third season after the team hired him back in 2016. He was assistant coach on Steve Kerr’s people with the Golden State before becoming part of the Lakers family. Walton enjoys a 89-132 record with the Lakers.

“Nothing is going to happen with Luke,” Turner reported that one person said. “There hasn’t even been any talk about it and there won’t be any talks about it. Luke will definitely finish the season and he has the full support. So any talk in the media or on social media can be put to bed about Luke. He’s not going anywhere. There has been no conversation about it.”
