Magic Johnson Breaks Silence On Anthony Davis Trade And Warns Lakers Youngsters

Lakers director of basketball operations Magic Johnson made his final offer for the New Orleans Pelicans, and they did not accept it. The Lakers could not get Anthony Davis, and Johnson talked for the first time since the failure of the trade deals.

LA made six offers and the last one included six players and two-first round draft picks. In other words, the Lakers did the impossible to get Davis, but the Pelicans said ‘no.’ Magic Johnson was unsuccessful in his efforts to sign Davis, and this sort of affected the young players on his team. Some of the youngsters did not like the idea of being added to a trade deal with the Pelicans.

Things got a lot better on Friday night as the team defeated the Boston Celtics.

The director of basketball operations told his young players to focus on the playoffs.

“It is nothing to say other than it is just a part of the business and a part of being a professional athlete,” Johnson said. “I am going to hug them and we are going to come together. Our goal is still to make the playoffs but I love our team and I love our guys.

“It is a tough part of business when you are mentioned in trade talks or you get traded. But they came together and played great against Boston so my job is to make sure we stay together as a team. That we stay focused on the goal, which is to make the play offs.”

Magic Jonson missed on Davis

Davis shocked the Pelicans with his trade request, but the Pelicans managed to keep him.

“I just want to play basketball and I will be here for the rest of the year,” he said. “I am playing the game that I love. I am coming out and trying to help the team win. My team-mates came to me and said they wanted me to play. I am glad to be back on the floor.”
