Willie McGinest Drops Legendary Burn On Steelers Blog

The Pittsburgh Steelers cannot really cope with the threat that comes from the New England Patriots. Former Patriots linebacker turned NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest reacted to the comments Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert made. Colbert defended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

“Ben is the unquestioned leader of this group,” Colbert said. “Like I said, he’s the elder statesman and the Super Bowl winner. If our players were smart, they’d listen to him because he’s been there. He’s done it.” What does Willie McGinest say about this?

Colbert continued: “He can tell them, ‘No guys, what you’re doing is or is not good enough to do this.’ And I honestly believe that that can be a burden on him more often than he may like to admit, because he has to … he’s got 52 kids under him quite honestly. I want them to step up and say, ‘Hey Ben, what do I have to do? Can I do this better? What do we have to do to win a Super Bowl?’ I think that once you win it, you’ve got 53 guys who can say what it took. Right now, he’s the only one, so I have no problem with him. He can call me out and that’s fine. What he does, I totally respect because I see him too many times win games for us and come through in situations.”

Willie McGinest confronted Colbert

“It’s probably one of the dumbest things you can say to a group of men in the locker room that all you guys better listen to Big Ben. He’s the quarterback.,” McGinest said on the NFL Network. “It takes a team. If you’re trying to create a good team and a good culture, it’s not about one player. It’s about the total team. It takes everybody to do their job and be accountable or whatever. And last I checked, Ben hasn’t had a perfect track record at being a leader, and staying out of trouble, and doing certain things. When you talk about that, that rubs players the wrong way.”

The Steelers blog “Steelers Depot” replied to this video on Twitter. “Not sure how [Willie McGinest] even has a job at this point. Probably one of the least prepared analysts on the [NFL Network].”

Steelers Depot tagged McGinest, and he had the best reply.

“Oh yeah and I forgot I come from an organization that has basically kicked everybody’s ass for the last 18 [years] so that may have a lil something to do with it as well,” McGinest tweeted back.
