Trey Flowers Undergoes Surgery to Repair Shoulder Injury

Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers led the team with 7.5 sacks and he is now solving his shoulder problem.

Adam Schefter reported that Trey Flowers recovers from his shoulder surgery. Flowers played all of his four seasons with the Patriots.

“Patriots’ DE Trey Flowers, who projects as one of the top free agents on the market, is rehabbing from a recent shoulder surgery that is not considered serious, per @MikeReiss. The surgery was described as more of a clean-up.”

Flowers was the Patriots fourth-round pick in 2015, and he is a free agent. The surgery he had won’t affect his ability to sign a second contract. He will be in line for such thing after the new year starts on March 13.

New England could put the franchise tag on Flowers, and it will end up costing them $17.1 million next season.

Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com explained that the Miami Dolphins are considered “front-runners” to get the lineman. They have $9.6 million in 2019 cap room and will have to create enough space to sign him.

Defensive end Cameron Wake was productive last year, but the team is looking for younger players.

Gregg Rosenthal and Chris Wesseling rank Flowers as the seventh-best free agent for the class of 2019. Here are their remarks:

“While Flowers is more of an interior player or a 3-4 defensive end rather than a prototypical pass rusher, he can make noise from a variety of positions. He’s the perfect Swiss Army Knife for a modern defense that changes fronts on a down-to-down basis, and he’s already been the most disruptive presence on a Super Bowl championship team.”

Pro Football Focus also favors Flowers and they sure gave him a few great grades in the past four years, marking 90.4 (out of 100) in 2018. Flowers won a couple of Super Bowls with the Patriots.
