LeBron James And Magic Johnson Want Coach K To Coach Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to remove head coach Luke Walton at some point in the upcoming seasons. It may happen after this losing streak or after the season. Nothing changes the fact that Walton is leaving the team, and now we have numerous coaches hoping to get the job. Who are the top candidates? Stephen A. Smith talked about this on ESPN’s First Take. This report may not mean a thing, but it sure gives us a thing. Is coach K coming to LA.

Smith mentioned a few names that could replace Luke Walton, including coach K.

“Probably not Ty Lue. … Ty Lue would like the job, I just want to let you know, Ty Lue would like the job. He doesn’t want to be an assistant, his health is good. He would like the job, if it were offered to him. But I’m also hearing that Doc Rivers may potentially be pursued. And obviously the one guy that Magic and LeBron would love most is Mike Krzyzewski, but nobody thinks that that’s a job that he would ever take. Those are the three names you need to keep an eye on.

“… Add Mark Jackson to that list as well, because there are people who think he warrants consideration, and Jason Kidd. Okay. Those are the five names, you got Ty Lue. You got Doc Rivers. You got Mike Krzyzewski. You got Mark Jackson. You got Jason Kidd. Those are the names you’re hearing. I’m hearing more so Doc Rivers.”

If you compare these names, you will probably agree that Coach K is not getting hired. He turned the job down in 2004 when the Lakers tried to replce Phil Jackson. He has never ruled out coaching professional, but there is almost no chance that he gets the job.

River signed a contract extension with the Clippers aster last year, and it does not really look like he will leave to join the Lakers.
