Dont’a Hightower And Devin McCourty React To Jamie Collins’ Release

Reunions are always great, and a couple of Patriots would definitely like to reunite with their former teammate. The Cleveland Browns have just released linebacker Jamie Collins, and Dont’a Hightower and Devin McCourty sure like that.

The Browns released Collins after two and a half years with the team. Prior to being sent to Cleveland, Collins spend half of his career win New England. The New England Patriots drafted him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Southern Miss. Hightower would definitely like him back.

Collins was a great contributor in the Patriots defense. He was a Pro Bowler in 2015, and helped the Patriots win Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks.

The news about Collins’ release triggered an avalanche of reactions. Dont’a Hightower and Devin McCourty reacted to his status. Was this a welcome? It sure is. Well, Collins was great in New England and it is more than certain that his former teammates would love to have him back.

2018 was the best season Collins had in Cleveland. He finished with 104 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble, an interception and four passes defended. So, why did the Browns release him? They are trying to free up some cap space as he was supposed to get $11.75 million next season and $13.75 million in the final year of his four-year contract worth $50 million.

Hightower also had a nice season.

“That means a lot,” Hightower said in January. “Like you said, my time on the field hasn’t always been as much as I wanted it to be, but this year it’s meant a lot to me. I’ve been out there, I’ve been able to play, I’ve been able to be with my teammates from OTAs to minicamp, so I’ve enjoyed it.

“I feel like we are taking the right strides. I feel like each week and we prepare the best way that we can. Most of the time we come out with a good game plan and we come in with corrections to make on the sideline, so hopefully we continue do that and get better at those adjustments on the sidelines,” Dont’a Hightower said earlier in the season. “I feel like I am getting better each week and I hope to keep continuing to do that. I still missed a couple of days, a couple missed assignments, or whatever. I am just going to keep continuing to stride to be better each week.”
