Veteran Linebacker Immediately Linked To Patriots After Being Cut by Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs released Justin Houston on Sunday afternoon, and the linebacker is already linked with the New England Patriots.

The whole thing happened within a few minutes. The linebacker is linked to Patriots’ pass-rushing coach Joe Kim. These two worked together in Kansas City when Kim was part of the coaching staff.

“Justin Houston has an excellent relationship with Patriots pass rush coach Joe Kim from their time together in Kansas City,” Field Yates tweeted. “Will be interesting to see if New England takes a look at Houston, especially if Trey Flowers leaves via free agency.”

Landing Houston sure makes sense for the New England Patriots in several scenarios, and one of them involves Trey Flowers. Truth is, the Patriots are not really interesting in paying a lot.

Houston was removed from the team because he was about to earn $15.5 million this season and carried a cap hit of $21.1 million is on the team. The Chiefs’ decision to remove him actually saved them $14 million as the linebacker carried a $7.1 million dead cap hit.

“Everyone would like a player like Justin Houston,” Evan Lazar tweeted. “Will he take less to chase a ring with the #Patriots? Unless it’s a one-year deal can’t see them paying top dollar for him. He should have a huge market.”

The former Chiefs player may sign a less fancy contract with the Patriots because of their success. We are about to witness a huge moves around the league. Who is coming to New England? We do believe that the Patriots have a nice plan to make the Super Bowl again. They will sure get the best players on the roster. Some of their stars may join another teams. But, head coach Bill Belichick sure has a backup plan for their spots.
