New England Patriots Sign Former Redskins Wide Receiver

Who is coming to New England? The Patriots have made a few changes to the roster, and a former Redskins wideout is now making his way to the team.

Maurice Harris is the latest receiver to join the Patriots as reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, and he comes straight from the Redskins.

“Former #Redskins WR Maurice Harris is visiting the #Patriots today, source says. Had 28 catches for Washington last year but was not tendered as an RFA,” he tweeted.

#Patriots are signing former #Redskins WR Maurice Harris, source says. He was there on a visit with Bruce Ellington, who also will sign with New England, as @RapSheet said earlier,” read the update.

This comes right after the initial reports of the Patriots’ latest signings including former Detroit Lions receiver Bruce Ellington who played with Harris during their free agent visit in Foxboro on Thursday.

The Patriots liked the skills of both players, and they are definitely signing them for the upcoming season.

The player spent his career in Washington. He joined the league as an undrafted free agent in 2016 out of Cal. Washington didn’t want to place a tender on the receiver, and he became an unrestricted free agent.

Harris had trouble getting enough playing time in the first couples years of his professional career. He played in 12 games for Washington last season and started seven of them. Last season, he finished with 28 receptions on 47 targets for 304 yards. Harris played in 28 games for the team and totaled 40 catches for 432 yards (10.8 yards per-catch) and a touchdown.

The receiver showed his full potential in Week 9. He caught 10 passes for 124 yards against the Falcons.

When it comes to Ellington, he is a former fourth-round pick of the 49ers back in 2014. He parted ways with the Houston Texans and Detroiot Lions in 2018.
