Bill Belichick Praised Rob Gronkowski After Announcing Retirement

The Patriots nation will have to cope with the idea that tight end Rob Gronkowski will never play with the team again. The tight end decided to retire after playing nine years with the Patriots. It was a big decision, and it took a lot of time for him to think it through. Fans hopes to see Gronk hit the field again, but it won’t happen. Gronk’s teammates shared emotional messages, and head coach Bill Belichick praised his tight end for the great work.

Bill Belichick released a statement shortly after Gronk made the announcement and thanked him for everything he brought to Foxboro.

“It was a pleasure and a privilege to coach Rob Gronkowski the past nine years,” Belichick said. “From his rookie year until his final season and through countless times in between, Rob was a major reason why we won games and championships. His elite combination of size, skill, intelligence, toughness and ability to perform in pressure situations set him apart.

Rob’s impact on our team and organization was felt in many ways. In the ultimate team sport, Rob was a great, great teammate. His production spoke for itself, but his daily attitude, unmistakably positive energy wherever he went and toward whoever he touched will never be forgotten.

“Rob will leave an indelible mark on the Patriots organization and the game as among the best, most complete players at his position to ever play.”

Gronk will undoubtedly find his place in the Hall of Fame. 2018 wasn’t his best season, but he was excellent in the postseason. The tight end was criticized throughout the season for his lack of production, but Gronk was plagued with injuries and things weren’t really easy for him.

New England will have to move on without the star tight end, and we can’t even imagine that. But, Bill Belichick sure has a backup plan.
