What Surprised Skip Bayless About Rob Gronkowski’s Retirement

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski surprised everyone with his decision to retire, including Skip Bayless.

Skip Bayless is even worried about the whole thing, and we bet he would love to ask Gronk a few questions. Super Bowl LIII was the last game Gronk played in, and Bayless believes that the tight end sealed his career in the most brilliant way. But, he is concerned about the timing of this decision.

“The surprise for me is that we didn’t hear this a week after the Super Bowl, or maybe at the most two weeks after the Super Bowl — when he goes home, he unwinds, he has a couple of beers and he says finally, ‘I just can’t do this anymore,’ ” Bayless said on FS1’s Undisputed. “Why did it take this long? Because he’s going to leave his quarterback in even more of a lurch than the quarterback is usually left in. Because to me, the degree of difficulty for Tom Brady at age 42 just continues to go up, up, up, up, up, up, harder, harder, harder, harder.”

Gronk thanked the Patriots for accepting and supporting him throughout his career. He wrote, “Thank you for everyone accepting who I am and the dedication I have put into my work to be the best player I could be. But now its time to move forward and move forward with a big smile knowing that the New England Patriots Organization, Pats Nation, and all my fans will be truly a big part of my heart for rest of my life. It was truly an incredible honor to play for such a great established organization and able to come in to continue and contribute to keep building success. To all my current and past teammates, thank you for making each team every year special to be apart of. I will truly miss you guys. Cheers to all who have been part of this journey, cheers to the past for the incredible memories, and a HUGE cheers to the uncertain of whats next.”
