Bill Belichick Releases Statement On Josh Gordon’s Suspension Status

The New England Patriots will know more about their receiver unit once they get to know what really happens with Josh Gordon’s suspension. The NFL suspended Gordon, and he isn’t even listed on the Patriots’ current roster.

New England extended the original-round tender to Gordon prior to the March 13 deadline and the receiver has yet to sign it. There is almost zero possibility that other teams show interested in Gordon. If this happens, and the Patriots decline to match the offer sheet, the other team will have to give up on a third-round pick in return for Gordon.

Gordon will become part of the Patriots unit when he signs the tender. He played just one full season since entering the NFL in 2012. He was suspended for the last two games in every season for violating the leagues substance-abuse policy. His problems is a result of mental-health issues. Gordon missed 2-15 and 2016 because he was suspended.

In 2018, the receiver lasted 12 games, and 11 of these came with New England. He was able to catch 41 passes for 737 yards with four touchdowns.

When asked about Gordon, head coach Bill Belichick didn’t really give a precize answer.

“Yeah, I don’t know. His status isn’t under our control.”

Belichick opened up about Gordon’s suspension right after the NFL decided to rest him.

“I spoke with Josh yesterday morning as I have several times since he’s been here. It’s obviously an unfortunate situation. Personally, I wish him the very best as we all do on this team. He’s made a statement. The organization has made a statement. The league’s made a statement. I’ve spoken (about) him at length over the last three months. So, I don’t really have anything at this point to add to that. It’s a private matter. Hopefully he’s able to deal with it successfully.”
