Cordarrelle Patterson Makes Free Agency Decision

Cordarrelle Patterson will have to make a decision on his free agency, and it may involve another NFL team.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chicago Bears are interested in signing wide receiver/return man Cordarrelle Patterson. Schefter said that Patterson will probably earn $5 million a year. He didn’t provide more details about this contract.

Patterson will be a nice addition to the passing game of the Bears. The team struggled to obtain consistency on kickoffs.

In his rookie season, Patterson caught 45 passes for 469 yards with four touchdowns, carried the ball 12 times for 158 yards with three touchdowns and returned 43 kickoffs for 1,393 yards with two touchdowns. Patterson was named a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro for his role as a return man.

TB12 respects Patterson

Tom Brady had nothing but words of praise for Patterson.

He’s been great – great attitude, great teammate,” the quarterback said. “What we’ve asked him to do, both as a receiver, returner and then play running back at different times – he’s just a great football player. I think however he can impact the team – gaining yards whether it’s the kick game, pass game, run game – he’s willing to do it.

“We gave him the ball, he tried to jump over the top of the line of scrimmage last week on the goal line which was a great play, was really close to getting in but just a little short. He’s just been a great player, great influence for the locker room, just a great, positive person. He has a lot of fun and loves playing football.”

“He’s done an incredible job and so much of our team is guys being in roles that maybe they didn’t sign up for that particular role, but they’re asked to do it because injuries and attrition. You know, we’ve been at this for nine games plus four preseason games – 13 – plus two weeks of camp – 15 weeks. A lot of guys go down and you’re short at certain spots. Obviously, we have a lot of trust in him that when he’s got the ball in his hands, good things are going to happen. So, it ended it up being a great game for him. He played his butt off.”
