Giants Made Trade Decision On Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham Jr. has long been associated with the New England Patriots, but it seems like the New York Giants had something else on their mind.

The Giants sent Beckham to the Cleveland Browns, as reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo. Beckham was a top subject in every rumor lately, and many thought that the Patriots are interested in acquiring him.

Beckham is one of the NFL’s rising stars since entering the league as the No. 12 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. His talent is more than obvious,  but his temperamental on-field demeanor is a whole different story. The young player was fined or suspended 12 times since entering the NFL.  Things changed in 2016, and he was fined/suspended just once.

The 26-year-old player inked a five-year contract worth $90 million, including $65 million guaranteed in August. The trade rumors started circulating in the league, and it seems like someone was right about that story.

Beckham’s cap hit goes at $20 million annually over the next five years. In the next two years, his dead cap hit will drop from $35.5 million to $8 million.

The Browns were a logical destination due to the connections. Beckham’s former LSU teammate and friend Jarvis Landry joined the Browns last offseason. The team also landed Beckham’s former LSU and Giants wide receiver’s coach, Adam Henry, to do the same job. The former Giants player took part in a summer throwing session with Mayfield, Landry, quarterback Tyrod Taylor, tight end David Njoku and a few other players.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection missed 21 contests in his career. He missed 12 matchups in 2017 due to an ankle injury on a hit by defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun. In 2018, he had 77 receptions for 1,052 yards and six touchdowns. In his four seasons in the NFL, he has 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns.
