LeBron James Addresses Possibility Of Playing For Team USA This Summer

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup is taking place in China this year, and LeBron James may suit up for Team USA. King James talked to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints about the chance to play for our country.

“Absolutely I’ve thought about how my summer is going to be. It’s unfortunate that we’re so far out of the postseason right now that it’s looking like we won’t be a part of it, (but) I would say the first thing that comes to mind is just taking care of my body.

“I’ve played a lot of basketball, played a lot of minutes over my 16-year career, so getting a couple more months to take care of my body and refresh my mind and my body is going to be very key going into my 17th year. So (I’m) looking forward to that.”

LeBron has won gold medals with the Olympic teams at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Games. However, he didn’t join the 2016 roster for the Rio Olympics.

The Lakers star and his team won’t reach the playoffs this season. LeBron will miss the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. He has already talked about the effect of long summers on his body, and didn’t fail to mention the eight consecutive NBA Finals appearances.

The Lakers are resting LeBron, and fans don’t really like the minutes restriction. But, LeBron accepted it. Sort of.

“It’s challenging for me mentally because I’m so accustomed to being out on the floor, especially when I’m healthy,” he said. “You know, but it’s a conversation between myself and my trainer and the coaching staff and the front office, and this is the direction that they wanted to go the remainder of the season given the lack of success we’ve had with our ballclub. So I trust the people in charge, and that’s what it is.”
