Patriots Executive Nick Caserio Kept Close Eye On Two Top Receivers At Toledo’s Pro Day

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick appeared at big programs on the college football circuit such as Georgia and Alabama. The New England Patriots are off to signing a few new players, and director of player for the Patriots Nick Caserio is going deeper in the matter as the team is looking forward to sign new prospects.

Caserio was really interested in a handful of receivers at Toledo’s Pro Day, as reported by Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst. Pauline said that Caserio was among the many other receivers coaches from across the NFL checking up on some of the pass catching prospects the Rockets offer. He was even running the workouts.

“The Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Bucs, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers were four of the teams who had wide receiver coaches on hand for the workout. The receiver workout was run by Nick Caserio of the New England Patriots.

Combine participants Cody Thompson and Diontae Johnson stood on their combine numbers but participated in position drills. Each stood out catching the ball, and Johnson also looked good fielding punts.”

Thompson is projected to play in the slot, and has a nice size for the position. He is also great in his crisp route running. Last season, he totaled 48 receptions for 647 yards and ten touchdowns. Thompson was brilliant in 2016, when combined with running back Kareem Hunt and quarterback Logan Woodside. He was able to catch 64 passes for 1,269 yards and eleven touchdowns. Thompson will also provide versatility to the league as he has also worked like a quarterback and punter. At this time of the offseason, he is considered a Day 3 prospect that could take part in the fourth round.

In his sophomore year, Johnson caught 74 passes for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns. Last year, he had 49 receptions for 761 yards and eight scores.
