Patriots Named As Possible Landing Sport For Former Steelers Running Back

The New England Patriots can brag with a strong running back position, and they had a really deep area in 2018. However, the team may double down on running back position as free agency starts off on Wednesday. The legal tampering period will start on Monday. The biggest name on the market is former Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell.

Bell is set to sign a big deal, and the Patriots may not even come into consideration. New England already has Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead. MMQB’s Conor Orr doesn’t rule out Bell  landing in New England once things run smooth in free agency.

Orr mentions the Jets, Ravens and Patriots as top destinations for Bell. New York is a favorite, but the same applies to the Patriots.

“The Jets are viewed as the odds-on favorite, mostly because they have the spending money and the market Bell desires. I argued recently on the MMQB podcast that this deal either happens right away, or deeper into June after the draft is settled and rosters are finalized. Depending on what state of mind he’s in, Bell could take the most money, he could take the biggest workload in his old division (Baltimore would certainly make him a centerpiece of that offense) or he could take the opportunity to win a Super Bowl. Belichick’s infatuation with Bell is well known, as is Tom Brady’s affinity for backs who can make more out of short-yardage receiving situations.”

The Patriots may sign Bell, and that would be one of the greatest moves they will make this offseason. Everything can happen, and miracles can happen too.

Bell sat out all of last season due to his contract dispute with the Steelers. When active, he is definitely a powerful player. In 2017, he rushed for 12,91 yards and nine touchdowns and also added 85 receptions for 655 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
