Report: Patriots Release Two, Including Rookie Wide Receiver Darren Andrews

The New England Patriots are all about changing their roster, and they have already opened a few spots. The latest move involves tight end Dwayne Allen and wide receiver Darren Andrews.

According to the latest reports, the Patriots officially opened two positions on the roster Monday after the release of Allen and Andrews. Allen freed up $7.3 million in cap cpace, and this gives the Patriots $24 million for the offseason.

Andrews was not active in 2018, and he spent his season on non-football injured reserve. He suffered a torn ACL in 2017 at UCLA.

Allen has been the hottest topic these days, and his story started at the same moment the team discussed the restructure of his contract. Unfortunately, they decided to release him.

“Patriots have informed tight end Dwayne Allen that they are releasing him, per source. They have expressed an interest in signing him back for less money, but he will be free,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

New England will have to rely on tight ends Rob Gronkowski, Jacob Hollister, Stephen Anderson and Ryan Izzo. When it comes to wide receivers, they have Julian Edelman, Matthew Slater, Braxton Berrios, Damoun Patterson and Cody Hollister.

Josh Gordon, Phillip Dorsett, Cordarrelle Patterson and Chris Hogan are free agents.

Everything points to the fact that the Patriots will try to work on these two positions in the offseason. They won the Super Bowl this year, and that gives them enough strength to hope for another win. Winning six Lombardi Trophis is a huge thing, and there is no reason for them to stop now.

The offseason is that time of the year when teams try to fix the damage of the previous seasons and bring new force to the roster. Let’s see what happens next season. Will they get a few more players?
