Ex-Patriots Staffer Sums Up Julian Edelman’s Toughness With Perfect Quote

Is Julian Edelman the toughest football player on Planet Earth? You can bet he is. A former Patriots staffer sums up the receiver’s toughness with an awesome quote, and we believe that the Patriots nation will agree with him.

The New England Patriots have had problems picking a good wide receiver, but Edelman is sure an exception.

Edelman was a seventh-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and became the Patriots best slot man in the post-West Welker era. He was named the Super Bowl MVP this year, and that was the crown of a really tough season. Edelman was recovering from his torn ACL, was busy with his fatherhood and the NFL suspended him.

Will the Patriots find another Edelman? What makes Edelman so special for the game? His development was brilliant and quick. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman shared a former Patriots employee’s take on Edelman.

“Julian is strong as s—. Some of these guys are 5-10, 190 and are thin-boned. You can push them around. They’re good 7-on-7 guys. He can block, can break a tackle and pound-for-pound is very strong. The guy’s toughness and competitiveness is in the one percent of people in the NFL. He is rare. He’s an absolute pit bull. Welker and (Danny) Amendola weren’t as physical. He’s a lot stronger. He’s so f—ing tough.

If you ask him to go inside and crack on (linebacker) C.J. Mosley. He’s thinking, I’ll go in there and knock the s— out of him. (Braxton) Berrios will try it and be a bug on a windshield.”

The Patriots couldn’t ignore Edelman’s potential. According to the Pats staffer, Edelman gained Brady’s trust by being brilliant in one-on-ones in the 2009 training camp. Edelman’s confidence went high up in the sky.

“Once he got a taste of that, his work ethic was unlike anything we’ve ever seen,” the staffer said of Edelman.

So, Edelman is tough and has great feel for the game. His athleticism is the cherry on top. There’s a good chance that Edelman becomes a honorable member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That would be great.a
