New England Patriots Week 1 Opponent Reportedly Leaked

The New England Patriots won Super Bowl LIII, and it seems like they are off to confronting their next opponent. Sources reveal the name of the Patriots’ opponent in Week 1.

Everything points to the fact that New England will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1. Both teams are referred to as the “two winningest franchises” over the past twenty years. There are several reports confirming this possibility, suggesting that the Patriots will host the Steelers on Sunday Night Football when the league kicks off the 100th regular season. This is the third time Pittsburgh would face New England in Week 1 after a New England championship win. The Patriots started their 2001 and 2014 title defenses with wins over Pittsburgh.

The media leaked several of the Patriots’ 2019 prime time games on Wednesday morning which is less than 12 hours before the official release of the schedule for this season.

This is one of the biggest rumors throughout the season. Peter King of Pro Football Talk was one of the first names to discuss this possibility.

“Steelers? Could be,” King wrote while explaining his reasons to bring such conclusion. “No reason not to, especially since CBS has had the last two meetings of the teams on doubleheader Sundays. Also could be a big Thursday-nighter for FOX.”

King didn’t really think that the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets would confront the New England Patriots in Week 1 despite the fact that these teams were linked with the team. King do believes that the Dallas Cowboys may also be picked as opponents of New England in Week 1.

“That’d be my guess,” King said of a Cowboys — Patriots Week 1 game. “Pretty good team, pretty good attraction. A good headliner for the first Sunday of the season, and ratings gold because of Dallas, but hardly one of the great games of the season.”

The Steelers are the last team to defeat the Pats in the 2018 season. The Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, 13-3. With this win, the Patriots matched the Steelers with six Vince Lombardi Trophies.
