LeBron James’ Emotional Reaction About Viral Video Of White Cop Slamming 15-Year-Old Lucca’s Head Will Broke Your Heart

LeBron James wouldn’t stay calm and do nothing even if everyone else ignores the social issues we deal with. The Lakers star couldn’t ignore the viral video of Lucca in which the 15-year-old boy is slammed in the head by a police officer.

The incident took place on Thursday, April 18, and Lucca reached down to pick up the cellphone of another teen who was already lying on the ground. Lucca stood back up, and Broward County sheriff’s deputy Christopher Krickovich pepper sprayed him and grabbed him by the shoulders. Lucca ended up on the ground.

According to Krickovich, Lucca took an “aggressive stance” towards his partner while they were arresting another teen for trespassing.

“While I was dealing with the male on the ground, I observed his phone slide to the right of me and then behind me,” Krickovich wrote. “I observed a teen wearing a red tank top reach down and attempt to grab the male student’s phone. [The teen] took an aggressive stance, bladed his body and began clenching his fists.”

Lucca was charged with simple assault and resisting arrest without violence. The other person was released.

LeBron was the first to respond to this.

“So wrong!! Hurts me to my soul!! To think that could be my sons (crying emojis). Scary times man,” he tweeted.

This isn’t the first time LeBron addresses social issues. In an episode of The Shop, LeBron talked about his reasons to discuss social issues. The Lakers star said he had lost popularity from speaking out on top issues. However, he is convinced that this is the way to go.

“I want the satisfaction,” LeBron said. “Not for myself, but for everybody else. I was raised off of [rappers] Snoop [Dogg] and [Tupac] and [Jay-Z] and Biggie [Smalls], and now I get an opportunity to be the inspiration around what all of these kids are looking up to? And for me to just sit back and not say s— when a lot of my peers didn’t say s—? It didn’t feel right.

“At the end of the day, when I decided I was going to start speaking up and not giving a f— about the backlash or if it affects me, my whole mindset was it’s not about me,” James added. “… My popularity went down. But at the end of the day, my truth to so many different kids and so many different people was broader than me personally.”
