Magic Johnson Opens Up About The Relationship With LeBron After Resignation

Magic Johnson became the president of basketball operations in the 2016-2017 season, and sort of shocked everyone with his decision to resign. According to him, his resignation has nothing to do with the star of the team, LeBron James, and he even talked about their relationship.

The Los Angeles Lakers signed LeBron last summer, and things didn’t took the turn everyone expected. The young players struggled to play alongside LeBron, and found a way to communicate on the floor. But, LeBron’s groin injury put an end to the team’s chances to make the playoffs. Johnson resigned, head coach Luke Walton was fired, and the Lakers still need another big name on the roster.

When asked if his relationship with LeBron has changed, Johnson had the perfect answer.

“No, no, no, no,” he said. “I love LeBron. LeBron is going to lead us to the championship, so we’re excited about what he’s going to do. Also, we’re excited that he signed. It’s all good with me and LeBron. And Maverick. And Rich Paul.”

Johnson may be out of the team, but team owner Jeanie Buss has no plans of bringing in another person to fill in his position.

“Buss has no plans to hire someone to replace Johnson, who is still expected to be part of the Lakers’ free-agent recruiting this summer in some capacity,” Tania Ganguli reported.

How does Magic feel about the Lakers and his resignation?

“No, the same,” he said when asked if his resignation has changed his love for the team. “Everybody knows I love the Lakers so I’m always gonna help them. Like right now, I’m still going to help them. I love my team, I love my franchise, and I love this city. You have to do things sometimes on your own terms no matter what other people think and I’m that guy. It’s almost like I never left. I’m still talking to them every day. I’m going to help them get the Lakers back right.

“I love Jeanie. Like I told you, I’ve been talking to her almost every day. I’m trying to help. Listen, I may not be in there physically, but I’m still there.”
