Ray Allen Backs LeBron, Destroys Haters With Bold Statement

LeBron James missed a game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds of Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals. Chris Bosh took care of the rebound and sent the ball straight to Ray Allen, and he tied the game with a brilliant three-pointer. If this shot didn’t happen, LeBron would have only one championship during his time in Miami. Many say it was Allen who saved LeBron’s career, and he doesn’t really like what people say.

In his video for Sports Illustrated, Allen discussed the game-tying shot and his relationship with LeBron James. According to him, LeBron made a three-pointer that brought them in a position to tie the game. LeBron was the reason they reached the finals, and he was named the NBA MVP that season. Saying that Allen’s shot saved LeBron’s career is crazy. You can’t compare one shot and a championship. What would have happened if the Heat lost the championship? We will never find out. One thing stands for sure and it’s Allen’s respect for his teammate.

“What would you say to the people who say Ray Allen saved LeBron with that shot?” Sports Illustrated asked Allen.

“I always tell people, when you’re on a great team, you find heroics come from all different angles,” he said. “Throughout the course of that season, you saw different guys stepping up — whether it was offensively or defensively. In that game, Mike Miller hit a 3 without a shoe on,” Allen continued. “And that 3 was an important 3. LeBron hit a 3 the previous trip down the floor to get us to that moment, to that situation. For anybody that says I saved his career, we can make the same case for him saving ours.”

“He continued: “It’s not just a one-way street. You want to look at that moment and say this is something that I did, but I was part of a team, and I contributed at the moment the team needed me to contribute. I think [LeBron] had like 30 points that game. We relied on each other, and that’s what makes a great team.”

There you go.
