Stephen A. Smith Makes Major Claim About Tom Brady’s Salary

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback to ever walk on Earth. The strange part comes when you realize that he isn’t the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. Stephen A. Smith doesn’t really like this. If he had things his way, TB12 would get the highest salary in the NFL. Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson is taking the lead position in the list of highest-paid quarterbacks. The Seahawks reached an agreement with Wilson. The four-year contract extension would give him $140 million. Wow.

Wilson enjoys an elite status in the league. He sure deserves the contract Seattle offered. Smith used his case to mention Tom Brady, and let’s just say that he made the correct remark.

“[Wilson] should not be paid more than Tom Brady,” Smith said. “I think that Tom Brady should be the highest-paid quarterback in the National Football League, and I don’t think anyone can dispute that.

“I believe in excellence being rewarded. When you consider the fact that this is a six-time Super Bowl champion, a multiple league MVP. When you think about what Tom Brady brings to the table — I’m very big on résumés. …The fact of the matter is Tom Brady is universally recognized by everybody as being the greatest who’s ever lived. He’s still playing, he’s standing here now as a reigning Super Bowl champion. He’s been to the last two Super Bowls. I’m sorry, I’ve never seen Russell Wilson at a Super Bowl in years. I’m of the mindset — again, I’m happy for Russell Wilson. He deserves the money, don’t get me wrong. But when we ask the question about who should be the highest-paid player, I think the highest producers should ultimately be paid and Tom Brady’s résumé is incomparable right now.”

The New England Patriots won’t give Brady the type of contract Wilson signed. However, this doesn’t change the fact that his contract needs a rearrangement. TB12 has never entered a regular season as a lame-duck QB, and the team will probably try to lower his cap hit. Give Brady a new contract, because he sure deserves a fresh deal. In 2018, Brady completed 65% of his passes for 4,355 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
