Barack Obama Praises I Promise School, LeBron Reacts

LeBron James opened the I Promise school for one reason: to help at-risk youth get better education. Even former president Barack Obama took notice of the success LeBron’s kids achieved. Obama had some words of praise for the kids and Obama, congratulating them on their success.

“Another good story worth sharing: From one “kid from Akron” to a new generation of Akron kids, some remarkable early achievements at @IPROMISESchool. Great work, @KingJames—and even better work by those students. Proud to be a witness to their success,” the former president tweeted.

LeBron couldn’t resist the urge to respond to the nice words he got from Obama. “Thank you! Means so much to my kids. They’re beyond amazing,” LeBron wrote.

After the release of the results, LeBron took to Instagram to express his happiness.

“PROUD is an understatement,” LeBron wrote on Instagram. “I honestly could not wait to share this news when I heard it. Kids you are smart, amazing, talented, and nothing short of INSPIRATIONAL! 9-5 every. day. Teachers & all the staff ya’ll are the right ones, the real ones on this journey changing lives & numbers don’t lie. we’re only going to keep getting better. Let’s keep GROWING and changing the game.”

LeBron said the kids did an excellent job this year, and their numbers went really high.“These kids are doing an unbelievable job, better than we all expected,” he said. “When we first started, people knew I was opening a school for kids. Now people are going to really understand the lack of education they had before they came to our school. People are going to finally understand what goes on behind our doors.”

LeBron is a kid from Ohio, and this school represents everything he needed as a kid. He needed someone to take care of him.

”As a kid from Akron Ohio myself I remember walking these same streets I remember walking North Street… riding my bike throughout the rest of the city,” LeBron said.

“Kids just want to know that you care. Once they know that you care, then they will tap into their gift. That’s what I’m just trying to do. Let the kids know that we care, that I care. Then we’ll let them fly away. I walked the same streets as those kids. I had the same dreams. The same nightmares. The same upbringing as those kids, so I know everything that they’re going through.”
