Chase Winovich Reflects On Meeting Tom Brady For The First Time

Chase Winovich is given a chance to play alongside TB12 after the New England Patriots selected him in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Winovich has an affinity for the Patriots quarterback, and now he is given a chance to build a relationship with him on the field.

“I am familiar,” Winovich said when told about Brady. “Tom [Brady] actually came back and spoke to our team and came back for a game and I got the chance to get a really cool picture with him shaking his hand. It’s just really great that he cares about Michigan enough to come back and share some wisdom that he’s been through throughout the years. I really look up to him just as anybody that’s played at Michigan does.”

The Patriots selected Winovich in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Winovich took to his Instagram account to document the meeting with Brady.

The defensive end will be of great help for the Patriots’ pass rush.

“Man, I’m speechless,” Winovich said of being drafted by the team. “It’s a great honor and I’m just very lucky. I’m feeling very blessed, surrounded by my closest family and friends, so it’s a very lucky position I’m in, very blessed.”

“He was primarily an end-of-line scrimmage player at Michigan,” director of player personnel Nick Caserio said of the newly acquired player. “He did a lot of things well in their system. [We] have a lot of respect for Coach [Jim] Harbaugh and the program that he runs and the defense that [Winovich] played in. He’s been productive rushing the passer. He’s got a good motor. He’s a pretty instinctive guy. He’s good with his hands. He’s got pretty good technique and he’s been productive over the course of a couple of years here now, and he’s got long hair which I’m sure everybody will enjoy – until we tell him to cut it.

“He has some value, hopefully not only defensively but in the kicking game as well with his size at six-two-and-a-half, six-three, 245, 250 pounds. He runs fairly well, I think he ran a 4.6 [40 yard dash] or somewhere in that vicinity, so it’s a pretty good combination of size and speed, toughness and instinctiveness.”
