Chris Hogan Broke His Silence About Not Re-Signing With Patriots

Wide receiver Chris Hogan signed a deal with the Carolina Panthers. He won two championships with the Patriots, and then hit free agency.

During his introductory conference call as a member of the Panthers family, Hogan said he didn’t know what to expect during his free agency. He was given an opportunity to share the qualities that made him a champion with a team that’s trying to win a Super Bowl.

I really pride myself on my route running, my detail running routes, and I’ve always been a guy that runs everything 100 percent and does everything 100 percent,” said Hogan. “I’ve played special teams every single year of my career. I’m just willing and able to do whatever I can to help the football team win. I’m just excited about this opportunity to be down here with the Panthers.”

The former undrafted free agent out of Monmouth who earned a position in Buffalo became a precious player on the Patriots roster. However, the Patriots decided not to re-sign him after the Super Bowl, and Hogan became aware of the way things work in the NFL.

“It’s a business,” he said. “I can’t really read too much into it because at the end of the day they’re trying to run the team the way they see fit. Sometimes things just don’t work out, and I understand that.”

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Hogan wanted to stay in the Northeast, adding that the New York Giants and New York Jets were interested in him. However, most teams wanted to wait until May.

Hogan is excited about playing with Cam Newtok and Christian McCaffrey and being coached by offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

“I’ve only heard great things about Coach,” said Hogan of Turner. “I’m very excited about getting to work with him and learning from him. It’s very exciting to be down here surrounded by these guys.”

“A new team. A new organization. Another chance for me to prove myself and prove to these guys that I can be a valuable part to this team and help them win football games any way I can.”
