Jim Irsay’s Crazy Goal For Colts Will Make Patriots Fans Laugh Out Loud

Jim Irsay set a big goal, and we can’t even believe that he said anything like that. The Indianapolis Colts owner tweeted that being the greatest of all time is only possible if you win three Super Bowls in a row. He tweeted that in February on the heels of the Patriots third Lombardi Trophy in five years.

Many said this was nothing but a shot at New England, the Colts’ greatesr rival. It all started in the early 2000s with the rivalry between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Irsay said that again at the NFL league meetings.

“I really feel like this is a young team that’s ascending,” he said. A few minutes later, he added: “You guys know, I will unabashedly say, I’d like to win three in a row. How hard is it? I mean, it’s hard as hell just to win one.”

The Patriots are having an incredible game, and they have won five Super Bowls in the Brady-Belichick era. And now we have Irsay talking about three Lombardi Trophies in a row.

Indianapolis won only one Super Bowl in its 13 years with Manning used as starting quarterback. The team was unable to reach the big game since his departure. Their greatest playoff run came in 2014.

“I’m basically saying over a five-year period, a six-year period, go invest this – a billion dollars,” Irsay said. “So you have to have some serious trust in your partner, and the guy who’s right there in the organization doing that. (Ballard) has backed down. I know he really, really wanted to bring the player in. When the number got to a certain thing with the agent, he was like, ‘I’m out. I just can’t do it. Can’t live with myself if I do it.’

“And I say bravo to that.”

That’s a rather huge goal. The Colts may be growing, but they are probably unaware of Brady’s plan to play until 45. The New England Patriots won’t give up on their title next year, and the Colts better remember that. The same applies to every other team in the league.
