LeBron James Announces Whether He Will Play For Team USA

LeBron James is one of the basketball players who enjoy incredible media attention. He was a honorable player in most international competitions, but this is about to change. LeBron won a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and won two golds in 2008 and 2012. However, LeBron hasn’t been part of any international competition ever since. This won change this year. Will King James be part of Team USA?

Everything points to the fact that Gregg Popovich will take Team USA to the World Championship in China. “I love everything about Pop, obviously, but this is not a good summer for me,” LeBron told Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

LeBron still recovers from his groin injury and will be super busy with the filming of Space Jam 2. It all makes sense.

When it comes to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, we still can’t say much. LeBron is still observing his options. He said, “Yeah, that’s a possibility. It depends on how I feel. I love the Olympics.”

If LeBron decides to play in the games and win gold with his team, he would definitelt tie his close friend Carmelo Anthony as NBA player with the most Olympic medals, both gold and overall.

Melo won his fourth medal on the 2017 team that won golden medal in Rio de Janeiro. LeBron sat the games out after winning his third NBA championship and first with his former teammates. This decision got people thinking. Fans were convinced that he will never ever play for Team USA again.

Most players decide not to take part in the program. Older players age out of it, and LeBron had some sort of personal incentive to keep playing. There were no new players to play with, and the American coaching staff didn’t change at all. Rio isn’t a marketing ground for him and Nike, and we all what that means.

Things will change in 2020. Popovich replaced Mike Krzyzewski as the American coach. These two shared thoughts of each other especially after confronting each other in the NBA Finals in two different occasions. Playing for Popovich may be intriguing for LeBron.
