New England Patriots Sign Former Vikings Offense Lineman

The New England Patriots keep adding players to their roster. This time they have signed a former Viking offensive lineman.

Cedrick Lang is the latest addition to the Patriots roster. The team has announced the signing of Lang to their 90-man roster, but we don’t have much info on the terms of the deal both sides agreed to.

Lang is 26, and spent his 2018 on injured reserve in Minnesota. 6-foot-7, 300-pounder joined the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Texas-El Paso in 2016. The Giants released him at the end of training camp in 2017, and he spent some time with the Denver Broncos before joining the Vikings in 2017 as a player on their practice squad.

Lang has a versatile background. During his collegiate career at Texas-El Paso, he was a basketball player. In his fifth year, he played tight end. He was active in 12 games and was able to catch 11 passes for 72 yards and one touchdown.

If Lang makes the opening 53-man roster in Foxboro, the Patriots could really use his versatility. Head coach Bill Belichick uses atypical players in his passing game. He did that with former left tackle Nate Solder and former linebacker Mike Vrabel.

This may be a sign that the Patriots are trying to add depth to their offensive line after Trent Brown signed with the Raiders in the offseason. The team will also have to replace Rob Gronkowski as the former tight end decided to retire. New England needs to add some talent to their offensive line.

According to the current composition, Isaiah Wynn and Marcus Cannon will start at left and right tackle. But, there are still questions to be answered regarding the other positions in the line. Wynn is also in question as he recovers from a torn ACL that kept him out of the field throughout his rookie season. LaAdrian Waddle signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills, and this eliminates the chance of having him as the swing tackle for the Pats next season. Who is taking this position? Does Lang have a chance to do that?
