Patriots and Michael Bennett Reportedly Have Agreed to Restructured Contract

The Patriots acquired Michael Bennett from the Eagles as part of the 2020 fifth-round draft pick.

His contract with Philly was set to earn him $7.2 million in 2019 and $8 million in 2020. Now, according to ESPN’s Field Yates, Bennett and New England have agreed to terms on a reformed, two-year contract.

The three-time Pro Bowler will get a base value of almost $17 million, including a $4 million signing bonus.

Before the trade, Bennett said that he wouldn’t agree on a pay cut. However, considering the sum he would get, we’re safe to assume he’s happy with the result.

All things considered, Bennett stood his ground and got what he felt he deserved, despite the fact that he’s one of the oldest players (33) at his position.

Patience really does pay off.

In his lone season with the Eagles, Bennett scored 9 sacks and 34 tackles. Pro Football Focus credited the DE with 22 QB hits, 44 pressures, and he was also rated as the No. 21 edge rusher out of 103 qualified players.
