Ray Allen Releases Honest Statement On ‘Saving LeBron’s Career’

Ray Allen had one of the biggest shots of all time in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals. It was a corner 3-pointer that tied the matchup at 95 with five seconds remaining on the fourth-quarter clock.

“Bang! Tie game with five seconds remaining!” Mike Breen shouted.

This shot was important in so many aspects. Every NBA fan will remember the 3-pointer that tied the game. The Miami Heat won their second consecutive championship, and defeated the San Antonio Spurs in seven games. Some said Allen’s shot actually saved LeBron James’ professional career. We won’t go deep into the subject, and we won’t even discuss this. The most important thing is the fact that Allen isn’t buying any of this. According to him, it’s really “foolish” to say that.

“What would you say to the people who say Ray Allen saved LeBron with that shot?” Sports Illustrated asked Allen in one of his most recent interviews.

“I always tell people, when you’re on a great team, you find heroics come from all different angles,” Allen replied. “Throughout the course of that season, you saw different guys stepping up — whether it was offensively or defensively.

“In that game, Mike Miller hit a 3 without a shoe on,” Allen continued. “And that 3 was an important 3. LeBron hit a 3 the previous trip down the floor to get us to that moment, to that situation. For anybody that says I saved his career, we can make the same case for him saving ours.

“It’s not just a one-way street,” Allen added. “You want to look at that moment and say this is something that I did, but I was part of a team, and I contributed at the moment the team needed me to contribute. I think [LeBron] had like 30 points that game. We relied on each other, and that’s what makes a great team.”

Allen is right. LeBron had an excellent game that night. In his 49 minutes, LeBron scored 32 points and had 11 assists, 10 rebounds, three steals and a block.

We are not trying to say that Allen’s shot wasn’t important for the game.
