Report: Patriots Have ‘Taken A Shine’ In Drafting Duke’s Quarterback

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is 41, and he still has a lot to offer. He performs at high level, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Patriots need to sign another quarterback. Brady helped the team win Super Bowl 42, but he will be 42 in September. Nobody is immune to Father Time, and the Patriots organization has to think about this.

In other words, New England will have to consider drafting a quarterback in near future. Is Duke’s Daniel Jones the right QB for the team?

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that New England has “taken a shine” to Jones, adding that his draft stock has improved lately.

“This could become a spot for Daniel Jones,” La Canfora explained. “The Duke QB is a polarizing prospect who hasn’t exactly wowed everyone he’s been around. But he has good size and a David Cutcliffe pedigree and I continue to hear the Patriots have taken a shine to him. Is he their pick at 32? I’m not so sure. Maybe the Patriots would move up a bit for him, or someone else does.”

The only problem about his drafting is the fact that the Patriots have the 32nd overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. There’s a huge chance that Jones isn’t available on the board.

New England will have to trade up to get Jones as noted by La Canfora.

In his senior campaign, Jones threw for 2,674 yards, 22 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He completed 60.5 percent of his passes and posted a passer rating of 131.7.

These may not be the best numbers at the moment, but Jones’ has a nice size, and most NFL teams look for that when drafting a player. Jones is 6-foot-5, 22 pounts, and NFL analyst Gil Brandt has already compared him to Peyton Manning.

One team has Jones No. 1 on their list of quarterbacks entering this draft, and the list includes Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock.

Murray is considered the most dynamic athlete, and Haskins is an excellent passer. Many say that Jones is the best option of them all.
