Report: Patriots Hosted Versatile Receiver On Pre-NFL Draft Visit

The New England Patriots are top favorites when it comes to signing new players. The team hosted two quarterbacks on pre-draft visit, and decided to bring in a Baylor wide receiver, as reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport reported that it’s Jalen Hurd. The receiver is 6-foot-5, 226 pounds and was able to catch 69 passes for 946 yards and four touchdowns in 2018. Hurd started his college career as a running back in Tennessee.

Hurd carried the football 637 times for 2,844 yards with 23 touchdowns in four college years. He had 136 receptions for 1,438 yards with 10 touchdowns.

The receiver decided to switch positions after dealing with  head injury. Tennessee didn’t quite accept it, and Hurd went to Baylor. He ran a 4.66-second 40-yard dash with a 35.5-inch vertical leap, 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump and 4.18-second short shuttle at his pro day. he is also viewed as late-round prospect.

The New England Patriots respect versatile players, and that’s why they wanted to see the receiver on the field.

Belichick was loud and clear when it comes to the NFL Draft.

“I don’t know that that necessarily means that they will or won’t be there on draft weekend,” he said. “We’ll see how all of that goes. Just evaluate situations as they come up and try to make the best decisions we can for the football team.”

The head coach listed a number of past Patriots players across different positions: Mike Vrabel, Ted Washington, Deion Branch, and Vince Wilfork, among others. He said, “None of them are in this draft class. So we’ll look at this draft class or whatever other players are available and make the decision that we feel like will benefit our football team in 2019 and beyond.”

Belichick said the standard sizes of linemen when he first started working with the Giants in 1985 are different than today’s linemen.

“So, it’s changed and our standards have changed, but again, relatively speaking, you’re still evaluating what a player’s total performance is going to be, not just the standards.”

Who will sign with the team this season?
