Report: Tom Brady Planning To Make Big Change For 2019 Season

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady follows specific workout regimen and diet, and he seems to have bigger plans for the 2019 season. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network tweeted that TB12 won’t attend the start of the Patriots’ offseason program. We also remember that he skipped out on the voluntary portion of the offseason workout. But, there’s something more interesting about this report.

“When [Brady] does get back in the building, he should be a bit bigger,” Rapoport tweeted. “Brady may bulk up.”

Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston provided more details.

“As for the OTAs, Brady not being there at the start pretty much seals the deal that he won’t be there for any save the mandatory minicamp in early June. As Jerod Mayo told us last year, Bill Belichick prefers players to either be all in or all out for OTAs, not saying, ‘I’ll be there for Tuesday and Wednesday of this session but will miss Thursday and can’t make the next one but should be at Phase 3….’

“There’s a lot less hue and cry over Brady’s not being there this year because A) the Patriots ended up with another Lombardi anyway, B) the subplot of Brady seeking purpose — which the final episode of Tom vs. Time invited — isn’t present and C) the Belichick-Brady relationship seems to have come.”

Last season, Brady completed 65.8-percent of his passes for 4,355 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In the playoffs, TB12 completed 68-percent of his passes with 953 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

“I don’t think there’s a strong correlation,” Brady said at Opening Night leading up to Super Bowl LIII about missing those voluntary sessions. “Had I been a part of the offseason, this team would have fought just as hard. We have great leaders. Even when I wasn’t there, I was totally confident the team was doing everything that they needed to do.”

Skipping voluntary sessions shouldn’t be worrying us, because Brady and his teammates won the Super Bowl last year, and Brady does’t really need to learn new tricks. He knows pretty much everything about the game.
