Report: New England Patriots Sign Running Back

The New England Patriots signed a bunch of new players, including a running back.

According to sources, Nick Brossette will ink a deal with the Patriots. He went through the seven rounds of the NFL Draft without being drafted, and entered free agency with an opportunity to pick his next team. Well, this really happened, and Brossette was given an offer he couldn’t ignore. The running back and the Patriots signed an undrafted free agent contract, and he was given a chance to land on the Patriots’ 53-man roster or practice squad ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Brossette was brilliant last season. he had a 1,000-yard mark (1,039 rushing yards) and 14 touchdowns. The Baton Rouge native was the 13th player in LSU history to record more than 1,000 rushing yards in a season. Brossette carried the ball 240 times ont he season, and that was a lot of workload after he didn’t record more than 19 touches in a year during the previous period. During that time, Brossette was a backup for Leonard Fournette, Darrel Williams and Derrius Guice. They are now part of NFL teams.

According to 247Sports Composite, Brossette was the No. 16 running back and the No. 180 overall prospect in the 2015 class. The running back was a state title game winner at University High on LSU’s campus, and finished his high school career with the Cubs with 141 rushing touchdowns, and that’s a Louisiana record.

The Patriots selected running back Damien Harris in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and added Brossette in free agency. The team also drafted former Georgia running back Sony Michel a year ago, and have James White and Rex Burkhead again on the roster. Running back Brandon Bolden create a huge name in special teams.

Brossette was one of six former LSU players who joined the league over the weekend. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took Devin White in the first round, and Greedy Williams joined the Cleveland Browns in the second round. Foster Moreau was the final player drafted, and he joined the Oakland Raiders. John Battle signed an undrafted free agent deal with the New York Yets.
