Lakers Talks With Ty Lue Break Down Over Head Coach Vacancy

The Los Angeles Lakers tried to reach an agreement with Ty Lue, but they may be obliged to look for another head coach.

According to latest reports, the negotiations with Tyronn Lue have hit an “impasse.”

The Los Angeles Lakers fired Luke Walton after the disastrous season. Well, it was more like a mutual agreement.

The team missed out on Monty Williams as he became the head coach of the Phoenix Suns. Lue was the top target for the team, and many are actually sure that he will get the job because of his relationship with LeBron James.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the negotiations have reached a stalemate.

“Negotiations between the Los Angeles Lakers and Ty Lue have reached an impasse without a deal to make him the franchise’s next head coach, league sources tell ESPN,” he wrote on Twitter.

Wojnarowski also added that it has something to do with the possibility of adding Jason Kidd to the coaching staff.

“Discussions have included talks on contract and assistant coaching staff, sources said,” Wojnarowski added. “Among Lakers hopes on a Lue staff: Jason Kidd. He made a strong impression with management in his head coaching interview and had a productive history w/ Bucks developing young talent.”

Lue took LeBron James and the Claveland Cavaliers to the NBA Championship in 2016. That was the only title the Cavaliers won.

LeBron’s ex-coach was considered a favorite for the empty position in Los Angeles, but the latest reports are sort of disappointing. The team may have to wait a little longer to bring Lue in Los Angeles.

Kidd talked to the front office regarding the head coach position, and he met with Rob Pelinka and Kurt Rambis. Kidd played with LeBron James on Team USA when they won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Things are getting little messy in Los Angeles, and the team struggles with several issues at the moment. magic Johnson decided to resign from his position as director of basketball operations, and his resignation may be serious enough for LeBron to go somewhere else. Jeanie Buss and pretty much everyone in the front office will have to do some thinking.
