Report: Los Angeles Lakers Made Official Decision On Ty Lue

The Los Angeles Lakers decided to move on from Tyronn Lue. In other words, he won’t be the next head coach of LeBron James’ team despite their good relationship.

The information was first confirmed by Tania Ganguli of The Los Angeles Times Wednesday. What made them bring such decision? It seems like the former Cleveland Cavaliers coach “isn’t the right long term fit for the organization.”

“The Lakers have decided to move on from Ty Lue as they search for their next head coach, having determined he isn’t the right long-term fit for the organization, according to a team source.”

The news was released early Wednesday evening as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

“Negotiations between the Los Angeles Lakers and Ty Lue have reached an impasse without a deal to make him the franchise’s next head coach, league sources tell ESPN.”

The Los Angeles Lakers and Lue negotiated for a few days. One of the sticking points that blocked the deal was the team’s decision to have input on Lue’s assistant coaching hires. Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers wanted Lue to hire Jason Kidd as a top assistant after his great interview for the head coaching position. Lue didn’t want Kidd, and suggested assistants like Tom Thibodeau and Frank Vogel.

Kidd is known as a back-stabber and a job thief in the league. This is one of the reasons that blocked him from getting a job at the moment. Kidd was a head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, and he tried to usurp personnel control from Billy King. When he failed to do so, he convinced the Milwaukee Bucks to fire Larry Drew so that the team could hire him. He was fired from the position last season, but this didn’t shut down his ambitions. Kidd appeared on ESPN’s The Jump at the end of the season and talked about the Los Angeles Lakers, lobbying for the position held by Luke Walton. Lue would never trust Kidd, and that’s what changed the whole thing about his hiring.

Is Kidd the right person to fill the position? His time with the Bucks was terrible. The team won 42 games and didn’t won a single round in the postseason.
