Report: N’Keal Harry And Patriots Reach Agreement On Rookie Contract

The New England Patriots selected N’Keal Harry in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and it looks like the team has agreed to terms with the wide receiver’s rookie deal.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that his four-year deal is worth $10 million with a $5.36 million signing bonus.

Harry was really happy about the chance he was given. Playing with the Patriots is the best thing in the world for him. He said, “I would describe my game as very passionate. I play with a lot of passion. Whenever that ball is in the air, I’ll sacrifice anything to go get it and I’ll do whatever it takes to help the team win. Anything Coach wants me to do, whether it’s on special teams, offense, anything, I’ll do it just to do my part and to be one piece of the puzzle in helping us win.”

I’m extremely excited,” he told media reporters when asked about catching passes from Tom Brady. “I’m just ecstatic to come in, work hard, constantly improve and just live up to the expectations.”

Is Harry the right fit for the Patriots’ roster? “Show up, work hard, take coaching and just try to improve each day,” Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio said of Harry’s future with the team. “Honestly, that’s a formula for every player. If you do that – I mean, it’s not that hard. It seems pretty simple but it’s not that hard. But, if you do those things – if you show up, if you work hard, develop a routine, have good habits, get into a day-to-day, you’re consistent day-to-day and you take coaching and you improve – you’re probably going to become a decent player. If you don’t do those things, it’s probably not going to go too well for you.”

Tedy Bruschi has a theory regarding the selection of Harry. “They get him last year, put a 6-3, 225-pound target out there and see what a great piece it was for them, how great it was for Tom Brady,” he said after the Patriots selected the wide receiver. “Maybe that changed the perception of what they might need. I think Bill’s always gone with trends and where the league is going. To have a big wide receiver, for possibly shots down the field off play-action; if they decide they still want to be a power-running team, this is a guy that can do it for you.”

Harry will compete for playing time with Demaryius Thomas, Maurice Harris, Dontrelle Inman, Jakobi Meyers and Ryan Davis. Julian Edelman, Phillip Dorsett, Braxton Berrios, Damoun Patterson and special teamer Matthew Slater are already in the receiving unit.
