Kyrie Irving To Lakers: LeBron James Told Of Breakthrough, Celtics Big Worry

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are expected to become free agents this summer, and it seems like the Boston Celtics star has a few teams on his mind. The Los Angeles Lakers are on his list of destinations.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst was among the first to suggest that Irving may join the Los Angeles Lakers because of LeBron James.

Irving demanded a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 because he wanted to be the star on his own team. He signed a deal with the Boston Celtics. Irving will become free agent this summer, and some say he will leave the Celtics and sign with a different team. The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are also considered as possible destinations.

Windhorst believes that the relationship between LeBron and Irving became a lot stronger in the past few months. He wouldn’t be surprised if Irving ends up choosing to sign a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“If you would have asked me six months ago, I would have said the door was closed and locked – that wasn’t going to happen,” he said on ESPN. “But over the last few months there has no doubt been a thawing between Kyrie and LeBron. Kyrie has become more open to joining the Lakers and has done some research on the organisation. That said, with Magic leaving, that was a guy he felt a connection to. With great opportunities in Brooklyn and New York, plus Boston trying to keep him. I think the Lakers are low on his list, but they’re on his list and that gives them a fighting chance. Boston have still got to be worried about the Lakers and their Kyrie pursuit.”

Things are getting really hot in Los Angeles, and the latest rumors involve Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka. This may affect the Lakers’ chance of getting an All-Star, especially after Johnson said Pelinka is a backstabber. Will big players be interested in signing a contract with such a dysfunctional organization? I don’t think so. Let’s see what happens next in Los Angeles. Will Jeanie Buss manage to get another big player on the roster?
