Watch: Patriots Players Describe Julian Edelman In One Word

Patriots receiver Julian Edelman is the luckiest man on planet Earth these days. He signed a two-year contract extension with the Patriots and that’s the greatest gift he could get for his birthday.

The Patriots’ official Twitter account released a video of Jason McCourty, David Andrews, Duron Harmon, Patrick Chung and Kyle Van Noy describing the receiver with one word.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady developed a really nice relationship with Edelman. These two have the perfect quarterback-receiver chemistry, and that’s one of the tools head coach Bill Belichick uses to encourage the team to win more games.

“Nothing surprises me with Jules,” Brady said on WEEI’s “Mut & Callahan.” “He’s as mentally and physically tough as anyone who has played for the Patriots. I think (Sunday) was one of the best games he’s ever played, at the biggest moment. That’s when Julian is at his best — in the biggest moments.”

The head coach knew that Edelman would turn into an excellent player. He had no clue about Edelman’s position on the team at the beginning, but it turned out really well.

“He came to the Patriots [as a seventh-round draft pick in 2009] and caught passes, which he hadn’t done before; returned kicks, which he hadn’t done before; and played defense, which he hadn’t done before; in addition to cover kicks and all the other things in special teams.

“Nobody has worked harder in my career than Julian to develop his skills and his craft in a position — other than, I’d say, Steve Neal — other than Julian, because he really didn’t have any background in it. We put him on defense and put him against good players in the slot, and obviously, he’s excelled as a receiver for a player that had no real college background doing that.”

Edelman suffered a torn ACL and a four-game suspension, but parenthood made him an even better person, and he is determined to help the team win another Lombardi Trophy. It’s been a rough year for the receiver, but he has at least two more years to spill out his greatness. The Patriots nation loves him!
